Week 4: Poster tutorial (visuals)

After finalizing the logo, I sketched out some layouts for the poster. Initially, I proposed to my lecturer the idea of having a few paper cutouts layered and elevated from the surface of the poster, also a redemption code that can be obtained by unrolling a roll of paper. The feedback I got was that it would be to expensive to produce and there will be complications during production due to loose pieces. Therefore I discarded the idea and began working on a new one.

As I was working on the poster's visuals, a new idea came to mind! I was linking the redeemable free gift which was the wand light to the poster and managed to come out with the idea of doing back-lighting.

So how does it work?

Basically the passer-bys would have to turn on their phone lights (also known as screenlight), slide it under a box attached to the poster to reveal the hidden code beneath.

This idea could work because majority of the people today owns a smartphone. A smartphone would also likely to have it's own screenlight or flashlight built-in. This idea also relates to how audiences in a night concert will usually wave their screenlights to the song being performed.

A sample was printed out to test and it works!

Moving on, I continue designing and experimenting various styles and types of trees for the poster because I can't seem to feel satisfied with it.
